*** THAT TIME OF YEAR ***
It's that time of year when we notice an upswing of illnesses weaving through the school. As a reminder, please do not send sick students to school. We want to minimize spread and help keep our teachers, students, and community healthy. If your student is absent due to illness, be sure your student is well enough to participate in all activities and they are fever free with improved symptoms for at least 24 hours prior to returning to school. If your child is absent, please notify the class teacher and main office with a reason for absence; otherwise, the absence is unexcused.
CWS Weekly Spotlight: Oak Tree Kindergarten
Oak Tree Kindergarten made bread and delighted the office by sharing!
Bread baking is a beloved part of the Waldorf preschool and kindergarten curriculum. Children knead the dough while listening to a delightful story depicting the journey of the grain from farm to table. Fine motor development, listening skills, and environmental studies are all enhanced in this multi-sensory experience that allows children to see, touch, smell, hear and taste their morning snack.
Oak Tree kindergarten also spent time wet-on-wet water color painting this week. Painting on wet paper allows children to experience the flow of color, and using one color at a time gives children an opportunity to fully, joyfully experience the richness of each color while also gently developing their fine motor skills!

Celebrating Michaelmas: Festival Songs!
Singing is an important part of our Michaelmas celebration and provides much of the material for our fall music curriculum. If you'd like to learn some of the songs your children are singing - or sing along with them at home and/or at Michaelmas - you can listen to some festival favorites recorded by the Cincinnati Waldorf singers here!
Don't forget! Anyone is welcome to attend Community Singing on Fridays from 8:30-9:15 with Mr. Petersen. That's another great way to learn the songs of each season!
Need Help Managing Kids and Screens? You're not alone!
Back by popular demand! Join Everyschool founders Amy Tyson (CWS Parent) and Blythe Winslow for a conversation so many of us are desperate to have - how to keep our kids healthy and happy in today's technology-saturated world.

WECAN Parent Evening: Self-initiated Play
Self-initiated Play: The Beginning of Lifelong Learning and Developing Trust
Presented by Philipp Reubke, Co-Leader of the Pedagogical Section at the Goetheanum.
Why is self-initiated play, beginning in the earliest years, the most appropriate way of developing a long-lasting interest in the changing environment and an active engagement in society? Why it is an excellent support to building self-confidence and trust in life? How can we foster and accompany free play without disturbing the initiative of the child? How can we welcome each child’s initiative while keeping the environment (relatively) harmonious? Philipp Reubke will give examples from his experiences at home and as a kindergarten teacher.
The registration fee is $10 and you can register online through the WECAN bookstore. All who register will receive access to the recording of the evening.
We want everyone to to be able to participate in this evening, if you require financial support please contact Heather Church at hchurch@waldorfearlychildhood.org
NOTE: IF YOU ARE PURCHASING FOR A GROUP: You must provide all of the email addresses of each person attending in the notes on the first page of the checkout.
